Leeds Senior Citizens Program Continues to Grow

Leeds Senior Citizens Program Continues to Grow. With exercise classes drawing over 50 people and loads of activities, games | Leeds, Alabama

If you haven’t heard by now, Leeds Senior Citizens have it going on in a big way.  With exercise classes drawing over 50 people and loads of activities, games and crafts that our 60+ crowd is enjoying, the Leeds Senior Program is steadily growing.

While all of Alabama senior centers were shut down for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Leeds dove right into renovating and expanding the footprint of their senior citizens program.  The space allotted for seniors at the Leeds Civic Center more than doubled in size, equipment was purchased and a new senior director was hired to increase services available and meet the needs of this ever-growing population.

Regular arts and crafts classes are being held and much of the artwork has begun to fill the halls and walls of the Leeds Civic Center to continue to increase the beauty, décor and atmosphere.  The Leeds Senior Center has become a welcome, loving and inspiring place where seniors can come, enjoy moments among friends, learn new things, continue their active lifestyle, enjoy a meal together and just hang out.

One of the main upcoming events will be Christmas Stories with Storyteller Dolores Hydock which is scheduled for Thursday, December 2 at 10:30 a.m.  Join Leeds Seniors for two funny and tender Christmas stories about the "something extra" tucked inside some special Christmas gifts.  This event has been opened up to the public so you are welcome to join these exciting seniors for a great time together.  Tickets are $10 each which includes lunch and seating is limited so call (205) 699-0910 to purchase your tickets right away.

Leeds Senior Citizens enjoyed a special Thanksgiving meal together this week and would like to take this time to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving.  If you are in this age range, the City of Leeds invites you to participate.

For more information about Leeds Senior Citizens Program, please contact Audrey Bryan, Leeds Senior Services Director, at (205) 699-0910 and visit the city’s website Senior Services page for their event calendars and menus.
