Parks and Recreation

Leeds, Alabama has excellent amenities such as city parks and state-of-the-art baseball and softball complex.

Leeds Memorial Park

Leeds Memorial Park features a one and a half mile walking track with pavilion-type playground equipment for children of various ages. The City of Leeds maintains the park, which is situated on the north bank of the Little Cahaba River where it crosses Alabama Hwy. 119. Described by regional visitors as a beautiful spot, the park was established as a memorial to all veterans from the Leeds area from all branches of the military from all wars, including those killed or missing in action. Five local civic clubs and the Leeds Tree Commission maintain the flower gardens, trees, flags, and monuments. More than 22 additional civic clubs do projects to improve the park.

Leeds Sports Complex

At the far edges of the historical park and the memorial park are five baseball and softball fields and a soccer field in a $1.5-million newly opened athletic complex reserved for Leeds Youth Sports. The parks host as many as 30 baseball, softball, and soccer teams during a week of play.

The city rents pavilions to churches, civic groups and families. The walking track, playground equipment, veterans’ memorial, sports fields, pavilion rentals, and other activities bring more than 1,000 visitors, including more than 300 children, to the park annually.

In the adjacent Leeds Historical Park, located across the Little Cahaba River, the acts of valor of three Congressional Medal of Honor recipients are recounted on brass markers on a brick monument. The monument features flags from the three branches of the military service in which the three men of valor served. Leeds is known to have the most highly decorated war heroes per capita of any city in America.

This park is located at 1188-1192 Montevallo Road SW.  There is no admission fee.  To rent a pavilion or book a group activity, please contact the City of Leeds at 205.699.0935.
