Role of Public Works

What is the role of Public Works? Here’s just a few of the tasks that fall under Public Works that this team takes care of:

• Bulk Waste Pickup
• Grass Cutting and Weed Eating
• Trees, Clearing, Drain Covers and Pot Holes
• Tear Down Houses/Property Cleanup
• Water Plants
• Sweep the Streets
• On Call for Fallen Trees, Wrecks, etc. Clear Roads of Glass, Rocks, Concrete
• Leeds Splash Pad
• Reserving a City Park Pavilion
• Opening, closing graves and marking correct placement for monuments for Cedar Grove Cemetery
• Assist people in finding their lots, paperwork for opening & closings, accept payments for the opening/closing for Cedar Grove Cemetery
• Answer phones to assist residents with their needs/questions
• Empty all city trash cans

On a typical day, the Public Works team shifts gears when an urgent need pops up and they’re called to help clear a road when a traffic accident occurs such as overturned trucks that lost their load or someone calls about a fallen tree.

The City currently has 11 employees in the Public Works department and offers training and incentives. Employees are promoted within wherever possible. We appreciate the job that they do and we know you do, too!
